For decades, researchers have explored if asking questions about things like voting, recycling, exercising, or volunteering can change behaviours. For example, does asking someone "How likely are you to exercise?" make them more likely to do it?
It does.
The Question-Behavior Effect (QBE) shows that simply asking about future actions, whether by oneself or others, can greatly motivate a person to change.
That’s why the questions we ask ourselves matter. Asking negative questions like “What’s wrong with me?” can lead to unhelpful answers and make us stuck. On the other hand, asking ourselves about actions (“Am I going to exercise?”) can motivate us to change.
